About us

Brightlycott is a small campsite that has ben run by the Friend family since Albert Friend first welcomed campers on the family farm about 50 years ago. It was expanded by Charles (Albert’s grandson) and his wife Julia in 2001 with the addition of electric hook ups and a toilet and shower block but still has the ethos of being a small family run campsite.

The main growing on the farm today is of herbal leys, a crop of grasses, herbs and legumes such as clover, which is made into hay or sileage . In the summer months you will see the fields being grazed by dairy cattle from a neighbouring farm.

By moving away from intensive farming practice our aim has been to improve the biodiversity of the farmland habitat , taking this further in 2023 when over a very wet winter Charles planted 3000 native species trees in a steep area of less productive land on the farm.

We are affiliated with the Green Tourism Business Scheme and use solar thermal panels to heat the water for the toilet and shower block on the campsite
